Taking Matters Into My Own Keyboard.
Storytelling that I can't quite fit into 90 second comedy reels on Instagram.
Two years ago I left my job as a physical therapist to make comedy videos for social media as my new profession. A foolproof idea, right? When you have delusional optimism and a supportive partner with a great job and benefits (definitely the more important factor here) the world is your oyster. Go forth and make fun of it.
Since then, this incredibly niche bubble of running content has given me a shockingly positive and supportive community online, one with few trolls and fewer hateful comments. Overall, my experience working in this world has been, dare I say, delightful? But as with all experiences in life, no matter how large, people always love to ask you…what’s next?
You’ve barely crossed the finish line of the NYC Marathon and your friend is there with a water bottle and a question. “Great job! So, what’s next?” Holy shit lady, can I catch my breath?
So for the last two years I ignored what this fast-paced industry begged of me. I waited. I sat on my ass and waited. I continued to make videos, I figured out which skits brought me the most joy, I dabbled in hosting different events, and I waited to see which area of this content world I fit into.
And in the process I was a guest on a lot of lovely podcasts and interviewed by talented writers. But what I realized a few months ago was that I am always waiting for the interviewer to ask a different question. To probe me a little. To lead me down a different path which would illicit a brand new set of stories. Stories that maybe I had even forgotten about. So this newsletter is my attempt in giving you a slightly different view into who I am, one that hasn’t been truly answered with the question, “tell me about how you started running.”
The plan? Oh, there’s no plan. My goal is a monthly post. One with musings about the current state of the running world, events that I have coming up and would absolutely love for you to attend, and possibly an embarrassing story from my past (or present).
I have also started building out the 2025 live show schedule and am putting together a new show that I hope will inject some energy and laughs into these big race weekends. The first show is in April, on the Thursday before the Boston Marathon and the tickets will go on sale in December. That’s right, December. Merry Christmas to my type A planners. So I figured I would get this email list going so when the algorithm inevitably decides that gorillas dancing to Britney Spears at the zoo deserves more views (as it does) I still have a way of begging people to come hang out with me.
Thanks for being here.
Laura
